Assistant Controller
Working for a New York based Record Label, the ideal candidate must be adept in all standard accounting procedures in addition to those unique to the music industry including in-depth experience with artist and publisher contract recoupability and FAS50 asset accounting. Critical knowledge to also include the retail music landscape, both digital and brick-and-mortar. The Company is self-distributed in the U.S. and has two European subsidiaries in addition to a publishing company. Candidate is responsible for the month end closing process to include accruals for returns reserve, co-op advertising, artist, mechanical and publishing royalties, inventory accounting and booking of overhead for U.S., UK and European offices.
The position entails monthly and quarterly analysis and production of all key financial statements, incorporating US, UK, & European accounting standards and taxation rules associated with the music industry. Candidate is responsible for month end closing process to include accruals for return reserve, co-op advertising, artist and mechanical royalties, inventory accounting and booking of overhead for U.S., UK and European offices. Produce statements for joint venture artist and sub-distributed label deals. Completion and review of consolidated monthly reporting including a cash flow forecast in order to report to managers and executives with commentary and analysis of results. Produce year end statutory accounts and liaise with auditors and lead accounting team in the annual audit process. Use specialized royalty software programs including Counterpoint. Responsible for the production of yearly budgeted and monthly re-forecasted accounts for whole group.
Requirements:
Masters Degree in accounting, finance or management and 4 years of
experience working within small or independent international record companies. Requires working
knowledge of contract recoupability, FAS50, Counterpoint software and US, UK & European accounting
standards and taxation rules associated with the music industry.
